Meet Omaha the Bat Dog
I love my job, if you want to call it that.
I’m Omaha.
I’m a two year-old Golden Retriever/Flat Coated Retriever/White Swiss Shepherd mix that loves to retrieve.
Ever since my parents adopted me through Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue, they wanted me to become a Bat Dog.
Apparently when I run out to home plate and grab a baseball bat and bring it back to the dugout, people love it. I’m not sure what is the big fuss. I’m just doing what comes naturally.
I started training to become an official bat dog in February 2024 and after four months of training, made my debut on June 9, 2024 with the Orange County Riptide.
As with anything brand new, I made a few mistakes and learned a lot. By the time the season ended, I was ready to start retrieving baseball bats for Minor League Baseball teams locally.
In August and September of 2024, I have retrieved for the Lake Elsinore Storm (San Diego Padres), Inland Empire 66ers (Los Angeles Angels) and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Los Angeles Dodgers).

I’ve been told I am very photogenic. So here are a few snaps from my first summer retrieving bats, as a puppy and training.

My Appearances
Since making my debut on June 9, 2024 at the Irvine Great Park for the Orange County Riptide, I’ve appeared for a number of minor league baseball teams as well. Check out where I’ve worked and where you may see me again.
Orange County Riptide
Making my debut with the Orange County Riptide, a wood bat collegiate baseball team in Irvine, Calif. was the perfect situation for me. The coaches and players were so understanding that I was just starting out and showed extreme patience as I cut my teeth as an official bat dog.
Lake Elsinore Storm
After the OC Riptide season ended, my first game in the minor leagues came with the Lake Elsinore Storm. The Lake Elsinore Storm is the Class-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
Fun Fact: Chase Valentine, the player pictured with me, played for the Orange County Riptide in 2021 before signing a free agent contract with the San Diego Padres.
Inland Empire 66ers
One week after making my minor league debut with the Storm, I took my talents to the Inland Empire 66ers. The Inland Empire 66ers is the Class-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angeles.
I was fortunate to appear at two games for the 66ers and was scheduled for the third game. Unfortunately a surprise thunderstorm made the field conditions unplayable and the September 7, 2024 game was canceled.
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
The third minor league baseball team I worked for included the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are the Class-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
This appearance completed the “trifecta” of visiting the three Class-A Minor League affiliates within Southern California.
